The brief for the garden, at this modernist house, was to create a private space with mainly evergreen planting.

The existing walls and fences were in poor condition, so I designed new raised beds, which when planted, gave height and privacy. I used white painted render, blue/grey bricks laid in a basket weave pattern and slate to enhance the greens and silver of the foliage.

I designed a stylised panel of paving across the front of the house which compliments the building and relieves what would be a dull parking space.

The planting is a mix of clipped shapes and more informal evergreens, all chosen to improve the view from the large windows.

It looks vivid and interesting at all times of the year and has made a secluded garden which balances the strong architecture of the house.
